Grameen Foundation for Social Impact (GFSI) is committed to paving and strengthening entrepreneurial
routes out of poverty for and with poor and marginalised people, especially women, in both rural and
urban India. With this belief, GFSI’s central proposition is that poverty alleviation must
increasingly
move beyond addressing deprivation to creating pathways to sustained economic agency, enterprise
ownership, income growth and prosperity.
GFSI leads with gender and integrate finance, technology and an ecosystem approach across its
initiatives. Its focus is both on enabling new entrepreneurs to emerge and on helping existing micro
and nano entrepreneurs graduate into viable small and medium enterprises.
To enable poor and marginalised people to move from economic vulnerability to enterprise, from enterprise to growth, and from growth to sustained prosperity.
Access to financial services is a crucial stepping stone out of poverty. We work with microfinance institutions, banks, and mobile network operators to design and deliver products that meet the specific needs of low-income populations. Our focus is on savings, credit, insurance, and digital payments, ensuring they are accessible, affordable, and safe.

GFSI operates as a catalytic engine: our 6-phase methodology actively guides, incubates, and scales resilient enterprises across 7 priority opportunity domains.
We conduct diagnostic studies and market assessments to understand the aspirations of low-income persons, their internal constraints and external barriers to starting a viable business, and the seen and unseen opportunities in their immediate and farther environments that they could harness.
Diagnostic insights inform priority value chains, particularly highlighting high-margin opportunities in rural agro-processing and micro-finance access.
Transforming low-margin agricultural yields into high-margin packaged commodities through decentralized processing units, post-harvest loss reduction, and direct farmer-buyer contracts.
